Basic Concepts of Human and Computer Interaction
Thebestindonesia.com – As we learned together, in a computer system, input, process, output (input, process, and output) Disast we input data, both in the form of a series of numbers or a series of characters, then the computer will then respond by processing the data -the data desired by the user (users). This event is called human and computer interaction, which we will shorten to IMK. So we can conclude that Human and Computer Interaction (HCI) is a relationship of mutual action (action and reaction) between humans and computers to achieve a specific goal.
When someone works with a computer, he will interact with the computer in specific ways. Common ways of interacting can be in the form of a command from the user to the computer, after which the computer responds in the form of a printout via one of the output devices or writes it on the display screen. In other words, human and computer interaction is realized through the input and output between the two.
1.2. Reasons and Purpose of Studying HCI
Currently, the need for computers in every human activity plays an important role, just like humans need a sewing machine to make clothes. Whereas with the human-computer, it feels like getting the correct information fast and accurately. For this reason, we must study the relationship between humans and computers. There are important reasons for us why we need to check the interaction between humans and computers. These reasons include the following:
- When the computer was first recognized in its world environment, it caused many impacts that had to be considered, both positive and negative impacts.
- To add insight and benefits and maintain the position of humans as a Master, it is not under the computer because humans created computers.
But the most important thing to know, besides the reasons mentioned above, is that many benefits can be gained by studying HCI. This is because several objectives have a reasonably significant role in human life. The goals of the HCI include the following:
- To make it easier for humans to operate computers.
- Get feedback that he needs while working on a computer system.
- Can assist designers in designing user-friendly computers.
1.3. Fields of Study that Support IMK
Achieve the goal of studying IMK mentioned above. This cannot be separated from the application of several fields of science that support this HCI. This is intended so that the system designer will easily design a system that is friendly and familiar to the user. The designer must understand the psychological aspects of the user because each user must have unique characteristics and different habits when working with computer systems. For this reason, studying HCI must be supported by a genuine understanding of several fields of knowledge.
The fields of expertise related to HCI are:
- Electronics and Computer Engineering
Using computers, we cannot be separated from hardware and software that will support us in interacting with computers. Goals provide a framework that allows us to design human-computer interaction systems.
- Psychology
This field is needed so that the designer can understand the nature or characteristics of different users. The objective is to provide or provide a basis for formal evaluation techniques to human-computer interaction system designers to measure the performance and opinions of human-computer systems.

- Graphic Designer
Talking about graphics, people will talk about pictures. In the world of computers, images can be used to create a dialogue between humans and computers. The goal is to create an interface dialogue facility for a human-computer interaction system design to become more flexible and powerful.
- Ergonomics
This field deals with the physical aspects when humans work using computer systems. The goal is to create a comfortable work environment when users use a computer.
- Anthropology
This field of science is closely related to humans, be it nature, way of working, or human behavior. As is known, interaction is strongly influenced by the technology used (e.g., in an office). The objectives provide a view of how the group works in which each member can provide information to each other following their respective fields.
- Linguistics
When we have a dialogue with our computer, of course, we use a specific language to communicate. Linguistics is a branch of science that studies language. Language facilitates dialogue between humans and computers. The goal directs the user to communicate with the computer better.

- Sociology
This field of study deals with the influence of computers on the human social environment. Whether the result is negative or positive, it all comes down to human needs. The goal is to reduce human anxiety about feeling excluded from the world of work by computers.
