Gadjah Mada University (UGM)
Gajah Mada University, better known as UGM briefly, is a state university located in the Sleman district in the city center, making this college’s location one of the most strategic. UGM is the first tertiary institution established by the Indonesian government after its independence, making UGM the oldest tertiary institution in Indonesia. This tertiary institution has 18 faculties and two schools which organize various educational programs, including undergraduate, postgraduate, professional, specialist, and diploma programs. Several faculties also organize international programs for both undergraduate and doctoral programs. UGM is ranked 231st in the 2023 QS World University Ranking (QS WUR), released on Thursday, June 9, 2022. Therefore, it can be said that UGM has risen 23 places from last year, namely 254 in the world. In 2022 it is also included in 17% of the world’s best universities. So in this assessment, UGM has consistently increased from the 2015 to 2023 ranking. The ranking method is based on several aspects, such as Academicutation, Employer Reputation, Faculty Student Ratio, Citations per Faculty, International Faculty Ratio, and International Students Ratio. Yogyakarta State University (UNY)
This University is located adjacent to UGM. Just like UGM, which is in the city center. Yogyakarta State University, abbreviated as UNY, also has a strategic location. In contrast to UGM, UNY, in its history, has had several faculties which were the forerunners of the Yogyakarta Teaching and Education Institute (IKIP), namely the Faculty of Education (FIP), the Faculty of Physical Education (FPD) and the Faculty of Teaching and Education (FKIP). So, it only focuses on the field of education and is one of the state campuses.
UNY has become one of the famous universities with the nickname The Green Campus for its success in creating a beautiful campus environment. UNY won the top 10 positions in the category of the best tertiary institutions in Indonesia according to the international university ranking agency University Ranking (UniRank) in 2022. UNY won 6th position out of 576 universities in Indonesia and ranked 65th in Asia. UNY has seven faculties, namely the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA), Faculty of Engineering (FT), Faculty of Education (FIP), Faculty of Languages and Arts (FBS), Faculty of Social Sciences (FIS), Faculty of Economics (FE), and the Faculty of Sports Science (FIK) which organizes educational programs such as undergraduate and postgraduate. UNY was once the campus of the U-19 national football team. In 2014 members of the U-19 National Team (times) by the Ministry of Youth and Sports were lectured through an educational collaboration program at UNY. Universitas Pembangunan Nasional “Veteran” (UPN) Yogyakarta
Universitas Pembangunan Nasional “Veteran” (UPN) Yogyakarta or often called UPNVY. Uniquely, this university used to be a private university, which began in 2014 to become a public university. UPNVY has five faculties with undergraduate, diploma, and postgraduate programs, both master’s and doctorate. Of course, this university is also located in a strategic place because it is not far from UNY and UGM. Based on the Webometrics ranking, UPNVY is ranked 104th or number 6127, with the majors or study programs targeted here being none other than mining engineering and petroleum engineering. These two majors are rarely found in other universities. So, to enter this department or study program, there is a reasonably strict selection for prospective applicants with a relatively large number of interests.
Universitas Islam Negeri (UIN) Sunan Kalijaga
This State Islamic University in Yogyakarta City, often referred to as UIN Suka, is the oldest form of a state Islamic university in Indonesia which organizes academic education in several scientific disciplines. Previously, UIN SuKa was named IAIN (State Islamic Religious Institute) Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta. However, starting in 2004, due to the integration and interconnection between religious scholarship and general scholarship to keep up with the times, it changed its name to UIN SuKa. Concrete steps with the emergence of a choice of faculties and available departments on this white campus also followed this name change.
UIN SuKa Yogyakarta is ranked 89th in Indonesia and 5,891th worldwide. UIN Sunan Kalijaga has many majors, but what is quite interesting are Islamic religious education and sharia banking. Universitas Amikom Yogyakarta
Universitas Amikom Yogyakarta, which was formerly the Amikom Yogyakarta School of Informatics and Computer Management (STIMIK), has become a model private university of the World Model Private Entrepreneur by UNESCO (Unesco, A New Dynamic: Private Higher Education, 2009) and has also become the Top 100 Universities in Asia Southeastern version of Webometrics (Webometrics, 2014). In addition, this university has reached 29th in the world ranking for the Industrial Application category from the 2022 World’s Universities with Real Impact (WURI). So, this university has risen four levels from the previous year. This University has also won 80 international awards and more than 210 national awards and produces 24% of its graduates as entrepreneurs (AMIKOM’s Business Placement Center, 2014). This college has two diploma programs, 13 undergraduate programs, and one postgraduate program. Universitas Islam Indonesia (UII)
Universitas Islam Indonesia, or UII, is one of Indonesia’s private tertiary institutions. UII has six different locations to support the academic activities of its students. This university is ranked 22nd in the webometrics version throughout Indonesia and ranks 2,618 worldwide. UII is also included in the ranks of the 500 best universities in Asia in the 2020 QS Asia University Rankings (AUR) and received three stars from the 2021 QS Asian University Rankings.
